On Sunday 8th March 2020 we were one of 100 primary schools who took part in The 2020Hertfordshire Schools’ Gala held at the Royal Albert Hall celebrating music making in primary and secondary schools across Hertfordshire. Pupils from year 5 and 6 represented the school. They sang beautifully and showed real resilience with the early morning start and long morning rehearsal. The concert was based on a new commission I am Alban by UK composer Anne Dudley, based on the story of Saint Alban with lyrics by Ian McMillan, as well as arrangements of Reach (S Club 7), Happy (Pharrell Williams) and Coldplay’s A Sky Full of Stars. The massed primary and secondary choirs alongside the County Youth Choir were supported by the Hertfordshire Schools’ Symphony Orchestra. It was lovely for the children to be inspired by the secondary pupils, not only watching them perform as choirs and the orchestra but there were additional performances by instrumental and dance groups. It was a long day leaving school at 7:00 am but as the children walked out for the long morning practice the exclamations of sheer delight at seeing the size of the Royal Albert Hall made the long day worthwhile. They were equally enthralled when they had an audience in front of them. A very memorable; magic day for all.
