Safeguarding

At The Grange Academy, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where all children can thrive. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we work tirelessly to ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of every pupil in our care. Through robust policies, regular training, and open communication with families, we strive to protect our pupils and empower them with the knowledge and confidence to stay safe both in and out of school.

Our Safeguarding Procedures

The Grange Academy has clear and effective safeguarding and child protection procedures in place to ensure that all concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing are identified, recorded and acted upon in a timely manner.

For our Child Protection Policy, please see the link below. We encourage parents and carers to familiarise themselves with this document, which explains how we respond to concerns and work to keep children safe.

Where there are concerns about a child's welfare, the school may need to work in partnership with external agencies to ensure that children receive the appropriate support and protection. Wherever possible, concerns will be discussed with parents or carers before a referral is made. However, if we believe that informing parents could place a child at increased risk or compromise their safety, we will act in accordance with statutory safeguarding guidance and make any necessary referrals without prior discussion.

All members of staff receive regular safeguarding training and have a duty to report any concerns about a child immediately. Any observations, disclosures or concerns are recorded and passed to one of our school's Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs), on the same working day, so that appropriate action can be taken.

Concerns relating to the conduct or behaviour of a member of staff, volunteer or any adult working with children are treated with the utmost seriousness. Such concerns must be reported without delay to the Headteacher. If the concern relates to the Headteacher, it will be referred directly to the Chair of Governors. All allegations are managed in accordance with statutory guidance and the school's safeguarding procedures.

Operation Encompass

The Grange Academy is proud to be an Operation Encompass school. This national safeguarding partnership ensures that, when the police attend an incident of domestic abuse where a child has been present, experienced, or may have been affected, the school is informed before the start of the next school day. This allows our trained safeguarding team to provide appropriate support, understanding and care to help the child feel safe and ready to learn. This information is treated with the utmost sensitivity and confidentiality.
