Black History Month

October was black history month and throughout lessons teachers taught the pupils about Black History.  As part of the month, year 3 learnt about Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole and Martin Luther King, they then made printing blocks of their images using the relief or impressed methods.  Year 4 looked at the artist Chris Ofili, the poet Bejamin Zephaniah  and the musicians Bob Marley, Stormzy and Ella Fitgerald. Year 5 looked at the life of Harriet Tubman an American abolitionist and political activist. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some 13 missions to rescue enslaved people,  using the safe houses known as the Underground Railroad.  Year 6 looked at the Windrush generation, Marcus Ratchford and the abolition of slavery as well as creating some lovely Caribbean queen collages.
