  • National Day of Reflection

Tue 23 Mar 2021 Amanda Hopwood
Today The Grange Academy came together to to remember the hundreds of thousands of people who have sadly lost their lives since the first lockdown began one year ago.  Today we placed a yellow memorial ribbon on our hearts to remind us that people always live on in our hearts.  We took part in a one minute silence, socially distanced on the field.  It was the first time we have all been together as a school community in over a year. As we stood in silence we watched 124 yellow ribbons blowing in the trees.  There was one ribbon tied for every single Letchworth person who has lost their life to Covid.  Children watched a short video on how to cope with grief and reflected on happy memories of loved ones to help with their well being.

  • World Book Day - Thursday 4th March 2021

Fri 19 Mar 2021 Nicky Murphy

On Thursday 4th March, in spite of lockdown, The Grange Academy celebrated World Book Day. The children - whether working in school or at home - were invited to dress up as their favourite book characters and we were so impressed with the efforts the children went to.

Through our learning during the day, we decided to celebrate the, sometimes underappreciated and overlooked, storybook villain. This was also the theme of fancy dress for the staff too! Pupils created an original storybook villain called The Story Stealer who broke into our school and stole all our stories. The children designed costumes, wrote stories and designed comic strips to tell his story.

As an extra piece of fun, the children were challenged with designing their own ‘spudtacular’ book character out of a potato! The entries that were sent into school were fantastic!

Please have a look through the photos to see some of our fabulous costumes, writing and potatoes!
