  • Christingle at St George's Church

Tue 14 Dec 2021 Amanda Hopwood

The Grange Academy attended a Christingle service at St George’s church this morning. First thing in the morning, every one learnt that Jesus represents light for Christians, then what each part of a Christingle represents.  Pupils made their own Christingle to take and light in church. Everyone walked to church with good cheer and high spirits.  The service was simply amazing.  There was a retelling of the story of Christmas read by Samuel, Tommie, Ronnie, Callum, Martha and Lucy.  Then everyone sang ‘Away in a Manger.’ Suddenly the voice of Christingle puppet could be heard, who checked we knew our Christingle knowledge.  Mr Baker and Christingle puppet were quite the double act.  Christingles were lit and lights switched off for the singing of Silent Night.  Prayers followed. Eva, Beau, Megan, Eloise and James read poems they had written. The Lord’s Prayer was read by Mr Baker.   My personal favourite was the Year 3 prayer read by Eva.

    Dear God,

Thank you for the world we live in with everyone.

Thank you for sharing your love with everybody in our world.

Thank you for all the good food, animals and water.

Thank you for sending your son and all the light he has given us.

Also, thank you for the seasons: winter, summer, autumn and spring.

My favourite is summer for all the light and warmth it gives us.

Please help us to give hope to poor people that do not have anything.

    Amen.

The very magical musical finale was the singing (with actions) of ‘It was a Starry Night.’  It was hard to  top this but Reverend Claire blessed us all for Christmas.  How lucky were we!

  • Pupils Pop to Panto

Wed 01 Dec 2021 Amanda Hopwood

The whole school went to The Gordon Craig Theatre this afternoon to see the pantomime Aladdin.  It was a lovely shared experience.  It had all the usual panto trimmings, but they seemed even more special after not being for two years. The children participated well and it was lovely to see their delighted faces.  Everyone left with beaming smiles and ringing ears.
