Take a look at what we've been up to...

  • Ambition

Fri 14 Oct 2022 Amanda Hopwood

Today in assembly children met ALISTAIR PATRICK-HESELTON a promising footballer who went on to represent Team GB at the Paralympic Games.  Alistair shared his story  of perseverance and determination.

Starting out at Wycombe Wanderers as a schoolboy, Alistair showed great potential from an early age, and was soon snapped up by Queen’s Park Rangers. After stints at a number of different clubs, Alistair opted to combine playing semi-professional football with studying for a career in quantity surveying.  However, in 2006, the striker was involved in a car accident which claimed the life of his best friend, fracturing his skull and spending two months in a coma.

He later resumed consciousness but was informed that he may never walk again, seemingly ending his football career. Four years on, Alistair was contacted by then-England and Team GB Paralympic coach Lyndon Lynch, who convinced the former prospect of trying out for the CP team, consisting of players with cerebral palsy and other brain injuries.  Alistair now acts as a mentor and speaker for the next generation of footballers, working with the PFA, Premier League and regional FAs to guide and inspire children across the country.

He certainly inspired the pupils of The Grange today with his story.  Every child attended a workshop and pushed them selves with the activities to be the best they could.

  • Year 3 travel back to the stone age

Sat 08 Oct 2022 Amanda Hopwood

Year 3 travelled back to the Stone Age and the hall (decorated in all things stone age)  was full of animal prints, with  lots of fur and prehistoric bone headbands.  The children completed activities to learn about the Stone Age.  Activities included:

    • Fruit Gathering – hitting a fruit target
    • Hunting with Spears - throwing a Javelin as if hunting for woolly mammoths
    • Making a stone age shelter
    • Tracking signs- laying a trail to get from their camp to the mammoth herd and then the fruit orchard.
    • Looking at timelines
    • Cave paintings
    • And not forgetting dissecting the human poo!

A fantastic learning time was had by all.
